DF Concerts Presents: RIP Magic

Consisting of DJ and sound designer Marco Pini and visual artist Felix Bayley-Higgins, RIP Magic could prove to be the next hot thing in London, with their idiosyncratic sound with snotty vocals and raw textures impressing giants such as Tyler, the Creator as well as the British music press.

The recipe is as simple as it is powerful: ‘The whole thing should be fun. We don’t want to overthink anything and just churn out a few bangers instead,’ said Bayley-Higgins in a recent interview.

Co-Accused with Dave Angel & Funk D'Void

For our first outing in McChuills Acid Arch, we're thrilled to be joined by two legends - Dave Angel and Funk D'Void. Limited capacity, so if you really wanna be there, don't sleep on it! Tickets on sale Thursday at 10am.

Dave Angel

A part of the very fabric of the UK techno scene, Dave Angel’s status as an erudite for electronic culture is anything but hyperbole or smothered in exhausting superlatives, but cemented in facts and encased in the endless memories of those who have lived, loved and danced, to the astonishing output of music he has created during his 20+ years as a producer.

Born the son of a Jazz musician and elder brother to British hip-hop artist Monie Love, Dave’s path in music came to the fore during the explosion of acid house in London, back in the late 80’s. Hosting one of the zeitgeist shows of its time, his weekly broadcast on pirate radio station Phaze One (alongside Fabio and Groverider), saw him champion a new sound that was gradually captivating the youth of the country and catapulted him into the media spotlight, with notable publications including Mixmag, DJ Magazine and The Guardian; all proclaiming Dave as a one of the major forces in the UK techno/acid house scene.

Officially launching his name into the limelight, and on a national level, Angel’s reworking of ‘Sweet Dreams’ by Eurythmics in 1991 was such a success it went on to debut at #23 in the UK Singles Chart after RCA were forced to release the track due to the incredible reaction it had received at club level. As a remixer, he has been invited by some of electronic music’s most revered artists and acts to apply his artistic trade to their music including Orbital, Sun Electric, Carl Cox, Spooky, James, Roni Size, Model 500 and Underworld. Whilst the formation of his renowned Rotation Records also gave the earliest platform to some of the biggest names in the scene today, such as Adam Beyer, Christian Smith, Deetron, Vince Watson, Laidback Luke, The Advent, Jamie Anderson, Bryan Zentz, Steve Rachmad and Misstress Barbara among many. As has long been attested by the scenes biggest names and continually backed up by his constant slew of robust dancefloor gems, Dave Angel remains one of the electronic community’s true characters, whose industrious approach to his craft gives off an aura of positivity like no other, a kind of warmth that you cannot fail to feel through his exceptionally, uplifting music.

Funk D'Void

Hailing from Scotland, with a career spanning over two decades, the now Barcelona based DJ, producer, coach and presenter, Funk D'Void aka Lars Sandberg’s influence on the dance music scene is undeniable. “Diabla”, released in 2001, was coined ‘biggest techno record of the year’ by DJ Mag and is known and appreciated by today’s youth. It was a record that united scenes and found its way into the boxes of the world’s leading house, techno, trance and progressive DJs alike, seeing the Scot soar into the DJ elite, performing at the world’s best clubs and festivals.

Other tracks such as ‘Jack Me Off’, ‘Bad Coffee’, and ‘Emotional Content, remixes for Underworld, New Order, Laurent Garnier, releases for Bedrock, Drumcode, All Day I Dream and mix compilations for Balance Series, Soma's Sci-Fi Hi-Fi, Cocoon, plus ‘Blood’ and ‘I Try’ under his moniker Francois Dubois, went on to become huge underground hits and crown his legendary status in dance music history. D’Void’s contributions to the scene don't end with his music. He founded the label Outpost Recordings in 2010, and has recently launched "Fixed By Funk" - a platform to lift up and mentor new producers. It's clear that Funk D'Void's impact on music and the scene is unparalleled, as he continues to push boundaries through his music and inspire the next generation of talent.

The Doors Rising

"Is everybody in?”

There’s probably more tributes to The Doors kicking around than a lot of other classic bands have to them put together, but The Doors Rising are something special.

They don’t just try to look and sound like Jim Morrison and co. (although they really, really do), but they also go some way to conjuring that primal mojo they embodied, that attitude that was as belligerent as it was bacchanalian, that magical energy that could only come from one band…The Doors.

Seriously, you might have seen tributes to The Doors before, but unless you somehow saw the real thing back in the day, this is as close as you’re ever going to get to it.

The Doors Rising play McChuills on Friday 28th August. "
