Evripidis and His Tragedies is the alter-ego of Evripidis Sabatis, a multi-disciplinary artist from Athens living in Barcelona.
On the 5th of October Evripidis will be in Glasgow, presenting a double act:
First, there will be a one-person show of Evripidis and His Tragedies. The "Tragedies" are the devastating, confessional, self-sarcastic pop songs that draw on Evripidis’s classical piano training, queer sensibility, storytelling skills, and love of indie pop, new wave and 60’s pop, and that examine and ultimately own up to the vicissitudes of life. Evripidis's pop inclinations will take us for a bumpy, dancey ride across the fine line between tragedy and joie de vivre. Evripidis and His Tragedies has published 6 LPs and has performed at international festivals like Primavera Sound, FIB, Indietracks, and Eurosonic Noordeslag, and in many venues across Spain, Greece, the UK, Germany, France, Portugal, the US, and Mexico.
After this, Evripidis will host The Night of the Loving Covers, a participatory event where he plays the piano and other people grab the mic to perform songs that changed their lives… or at least made them slightly more enjoyable. This event has been running for 19 years in Barcelona and has also taken place successfully in Athens and Madrid.
