If yr Scottish, even if you were the right age and into them at the time, there’s probably a fair chance you never got to see Nirvana live, at least not up here. 😢
Their Heavier Than Heaven tour with Tad in 1989 that ended with Sub Pop’s Lamefest at the Astoria with Mudhoney didn’t even come to Scotland.
They did two shows at Edinburgh’s Calton Studios in 1990 and 1991, both with Shonen Knife, one of which had L7 and a newly-reformed Vaselines supporting and the other that was followed the next night by Kurt Cobain and Dave Grohl doing an acoustic set in a pub for the Sick Kids Hospital to about 30 folk. Oh and there was that one at the QMU after they had become the biggest band on the planet and folk were selling their souls outside to get tickets for.
So aye. Nirvana were in Scotland not much more than Elvis was.
But…we’re happy to say that we’ve located the next best thing, with Smells Like Nirvana. We’ve been looking for a while and this lot are definitely the ones who come closest to recreating the raw, chaotic energy and huge quiet/loud racket that was the live Nirvana experience.
Expect a setlist full of all the hits, as well as all the mega album tracks and deep cuts you’d want to hear in yr dream Nirvana setlist. These guys get it. Trust us, you won’t be disappointed.
