As many of you will know, last year was McChuills’ 30th birthday. For various reasons (none of them particulary strong) we didn’t do much with it, which was a bit of a shame. Any venue getting to 30 is amazing, but a venue that’s still independent, owned by the same family and ran as a socialist community hub for everyone from ravers and mods to casuals, LGBTQ and more is pretty fvcking amazing indeed. And is arguably better these days than ever before too, which is even more unheard of…
So it was a shame we didn’t do much about turning 30. But…this year is another anniversary, as it was 30 years ago that we moved from Candleriggs to our new home here on the High Street and McChuills as we know it was truly born.
This time, we’re not letting such an occasion slide. There’s going to be more than one event in the coming months celebrating our 30 Years on the High Street, but for starters, we’re having an actual birthday party this Sunday. From 12pm we’ll have some of our best and most popular resident DJs playing, with folk like Paul Molloy, A Deeper Groove, Noj, Robert Kelly, Thistle Stew, Nicky Wright and of course, the man who started it all, our own DJ Nicky himself.
After that we’ve also got Bosco (LGB), Harrison (Chemical Imbalance) and Hanz (LGB/CI) doing THR333, our new Sunday club night, which is just going from strength to strength and is a proper party even when it isn’t a bank holiday.
Oh and we also have ‘80s Casual Classics running a pop-up store through the day, a load of excellent clobber and vinyl available from a range of different vendors.
So get yrself doon early doors and celebrate 30 Years on the High Street with us, because we really, really couldn’t have done it without all of you. The McChuills Family is not only what keeps this place going, but it keeps us going too. We’re so grateful for that and always will be.
