Born in Texas and raised in Portlaoise, Kean Kavanagh’s The County Star is a study in place and memory, fusing worn-in Americana and Irish traditional inflections.

The County Star marks Kavanagh’s first full length solo release following 2023’s Wrestling music EP, and the 2020 mixtape Dog Person before it. 2020 also saw Kean make an appearance on the Everything Is Recorded project FRIDAY FOREVER, (curated by Richard Russell of XL Recordings) alongside Aitch, Flohio, Maria Somerville, Ghostface Killah and others, aligning himself with a tastemaker and hotly tipped selection of musical peers. Alongside his own rise, Soft Boy Records, founded in 2015, morphed into a cultural behemoth of its own, gripping the Irish music scene and becoming subject of a Boiler Room documentary about the label and collective. Known for his work as both a producer and artist, Kavanagh has built a reputation for a sharp, candid writing style and a singular creative voice.
